After the dismal box-office returns of OHMSS, the producers decided to return to a lighter Bond adventure. Best of all, it marked the return of Sean Connery as OO7. Although it is never implied, Bond is searching for Blofeld to avenge the death of his wife, Tracy. Assuming Blofeld is dead, Bond is sent to Amsterdam and then to Las Vegas to investigate a mysterious diamond smuggling operation and the elusive Willard Whyte. It is through Whyte's billion dollar industries that the smuggled diamonds are being used for a more nefarious operation. A diamond layered laser satellite, which can be used to force the world's governments to global peace or for international terrorism.

Diamonds Are Forever introduced the lighter action Bond films that would continue through the Roger Moore era. At times it would get too silly, but it is still an entertaining Bond film. Best parts of the film are the nice soundtrack from John Barry. Shirley Bassey belts out her second title song and Ken Adam returns with his wonderful set designs. Of course the return of Sean Connery was a major part of the success of this film too. Negative parts of the film would be Charles Gray's interpretation of Ernst Stavro Blofeld. He makes him too nice of a villain to be the head of a terrorist group.

Most Memorable Dialogue:

After a gang of thugs toss Plenty O'Toole out of a 10th story window and into a swimming pool. Bond comments to Rodney, the head gangster.

Bond: "Exceptionally fine shot."
Rodney: "I didn't know there was a pool down there."
